PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

MBR system is the best available technology to replace the failing conventional activated sludge system.
DESCRIPTION
The Fairfield Village wastewater treatment plant is permitted under SPDES permit and serves 256 apartments and a recreational building with laundry facilities. In 2008, Groton owners were asked to meet total nitrogen of 10 mg/l. A new MBR system next to the existing treatment plant was constructed to meet the permit limits. Since there was no extra room available on the site, MBR technology was the best available technology to fit in the small footprint available. The MBR system not only provides the facility with the benefit of a small footprint but also ease of operation and lower maintenance costs. It also offers an overall cost savings on sludge hauling because of the plant’s ability to operate at a longer SRT and at a higher range of MLSS concentration.
