Upgrade from a failing lagoon to state of the art MBR system helped meet TP for this NYC watershed project.”
DESCRIPTION
Mountainside farms MBR system is in NYC watershed and DEP was particularly involved in the process selection and design of MBR system. It is a liquid processing plant and mainly bottles dairy products, but also provides bottling services for other products such as ice tea and orange juice. The existing system was a failing extended aeration lagoon followed by a clarifier, and a tertiary filter with alum addition. Before selecting MBR technology, they ran a six month pilot in combination with dissolved air floatation (DAF) and MBR. DAF reduced the incoming fats, oil and grease to the MBR system. Membrane thickener (MBT) was also included with the MBR system for WAS solids thickening.
