NDPES limits are achievable using MBR technology even while conserving energy.
DESCRIPTION
The old wastewater treatment facility at Norfolk MA exceeded permit limits in 2005. With a sand‐ filter the plant would not be capable of meeting the new NDPES standard of 0.1 total phosphorus. Planning began for a new plant to handle the 0.484 MGD flow from four nearby state prisons. At first, an MBR was not considered because of a perception of complexity and operating cost, but further examination showed that an Enviroquip system could achieve the highest quality effluent even while achieving energy consumption equal to or competitive with the alternative conventional treatment systems. In addition, Enviroquip's automated controls package would allow the plant to run with minimal operator intervention.
