DESCRIPTION

North Topsail WWTP is a privately owned municipal water treatment plant. This plant was initially commissioned in 2005 with Kubota RW400 submerged membrane units (SMU). The plant experienced many issues stemming from influent conditions not originally designed around. Membranes (Kubota) became compromised with torn and fouled membrane plates which needed to be cleaned often and replaced at an unusually high rate. This severely affected the output of the plant. At times the plant could only operate with a portion of the membranes online. Over the years the plant was re-worked to account for the influent characteristics, however the plant rarely ran more than ½ its design flow rate and required constant maintenance.

With the advent of the Ovivo Membrane Units (OMU) the plant became a candidate for retrofit. Ovivo reviewed the initial design, recalculated production rate capacities, and determined the level of equipment replacement necessary to remove the old SMUs and replace them with new self-healing, OV400 , OMUs. An additional feature specifically related to an Ovivo Membrane unit, is the design of a unique Universal Mounting kit (UMK) which allows for a keeping the basins operational during maintenance.
