The new WWTP's use of the innovative membrane bioreactor technology will accomplish the required effluent discharge limits.

DESCRIPTION

The Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico MBR is located in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of south eastern New Mexico surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest. The plant services the housing, businesses, casino, a horse race track and ski resort with the purpose to meet the EPA requirements limiting phosphorus and nitrogen. The new limit of 0.1 mg/L of total phosphorus is accomplished with the Bio-P process that utilizes an internal recycle process across aerobic and anaerobic zones. The effluent is discharged into the Rio Ruidoso that is closely monitored to protect the fish and wildlife habitat. The technology involved in this design is intended to increase the biological nutrient removal while reducing chemical requirements to do so.
