PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

DESCRIPTION
Commissioned in June 2012, The Waikoloa Beach Resort facility is the second MBR in the state of Hawaii. The resort, situated on the northwest corner of the big island, is surrounded by the desert area of the "Lava Coast." It's location on the leeward side of nearby mountains makes rainfall scarce and the resort must obtain fresh water from about 30 miles away via pipeline. One important driver for Waikoloa's choice of an MBR was the up to 1.0 MGD of high quality effluent which is to be used to irrigate a golf course and other parts of the resort, reducing dependence on piped in fresh water. The highly automated Ovivo MBR also allows plant operations staff to maintain their normal schedules and dedicate minimal time to running the wastewater treatment plant.
